Stars on Mario Kart Wii?

Ive seen people on Nintendo Wii WiFi with a gold steering wheel and either one, two or three stars near it. How do i get these stars and what are they?

A gold steering wheel means they predominately use the wheel in everything they do on Mario Kart, as opposed to the wiimote and nunchuck setup or a game cube controller.

When you race one of the cups in single player, you get a ranking for how well you've done. The rankings range from E-A, and better than A you can get one, two, or three gold stars. When you've completed all of the cups, your lowest ranking for one of those cups becomes your overall racing score. If you have mostly As and Bs and a few gold stars, for instance, you'll have a B ranking.

You get an overall star ranking by completing all cups with at least one gold star. I have a two star ranking because I've completed everything with two or three gold stars.

You can drag a single green shell, red shell, or banana behind you by pressing and holding the Z button with the wiimote and nunchuck setup, or by holding one of the side d-pad buttons with the wheel. I'm not sure about the gamecube controller because I don't use it for Mario Kart.

I would advise against dragging the fake box behind you because it offers no protection. If someone or something hits your fake box, it simply shoves the box into you and you suffer the consequences. Shells and bananas, on the other hand, can block items and hit people who tailgate too closely.
