Xbox KINECT, PS3 Move, WII, eyetoys all sucky?
I'm a big fan of PS3 but haven’t seen core game technology change much since 6th gen consoles. Games look better and perform smoother, but that’s it. Without advanced original software, I don't see how this kind of gimmickry could elevate any of the brands. People bought the wii in droves, but many abandoned it because of the software catalogue. You need impressive games (and a lot of them) to champion impressive gadgets, or they quickly become redundant fads.
I feel sorry for people with high expectations of this stuff. Its almost as though they never learnt from the light guns, the power gloves, the dance mats, or the force feedback steering wheels of the past. They all seemed great on release, but their software limitations gave way to boredom quickly.
Would you agree?
I would have agreed if I had not played with it. My wifes mother bought the move as a gift for my birthday a few days back. It came with the eye toy, the move, and the sports champions game aswell as a demo disc. Its better the the wii and it has some hardcore titles already behind it.
Sports championship I figured would just be wii sports and just as bland, I was wrong. Even something as simple as the better movement detection makes it a great game, plus no annoying looking mii's. Table tennis feels great and is addictive as hell, and I love the gladiator game. Your sword moves in the same path your arm does so you can aim slashes and stabs where ever you want, thing works very well. Frisbee golf is slow paced and very relaxing, and you can curve it just like in real life. This package alone is better then any of the shovel ware on the wii, but I know you want hardcore titles.
Resident Evil 5 has move support, and it works well. You use a dual shock or the navigator to move and do item management and the move to aim and shoot. You shake it to reload like old school light gun games and you can slash with the knife with it. Its actually pretty fun and has gotten me back into the game again.
Socom and MAG are both adding support, heavy rain has support. The new Time crisis is basically built for it and there are other games on the horizon that have been confirmed titles for it. I think the move works so well because its not trying to replace a controller like the wiimote did. It is just giving you another option to enjoy and add to the experience. It is gimicky but it works very well and is enjoyable while not saturating the market with useless games. The ps3 will still have great titles, and im sure the kinect will work out similar. Wii is based almost soley on motion, move and kinect are just add ons and there for work wonderfully as such.
